Nancy Pelosi knows that her impeachment isn’t going anywhere.
But she was hoping that a Republican betrayal would give her what she wants.
Nancy Pelosi hit the roof when this shocking letter ruined all her plans.
The House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for a second time on Wednesday.
While this historically makes Trump the only president to be impeached twice it does little else.
The House voted to impeach Trump for allegedly “encourag[ing]…imminent lawless action at the Capitol.”
The Senate does not reconvene until Jan. 19 and Trump’s term expires on Jan. 20,so the impeachment trial will not even take place until after Trump has left office.
It’s legally doubtful whether the Constitution even allows former government officials to be impeached since it has never been successfully attempted before.
What the Democrats really wanted was for Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump from office by invoking the 25thAmendment to remove the President.
However, all the Democrats’ hopes were dashed when Pence sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi which stated that he wasn’t going to attempt to remove Trump since it would be neither legal nor beneficial.
“But now, with just eight days left in the President’s term, you and the Democratic Caucus are demanding that the Cabinet and I invoke the 25th Amendment,” Pence told Pelosi. “I do not believe that such course of action is in the best interest of our nation or consistent with our Constitution.
“Last week I did not yield to pressure to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representatives to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our Nation,” Pence added.
Pence noted that the 25thAmendment was designed to remove a president who is physically incapacitated and threw Pelosi’s own words back at her, reminding her when she said the “president’s fitness for office must be determined by science and facts.”
“Madam Speaker, you were right,” Pence wrote. “Under our Constitution, the 25th Amendment is not a means of punishment or usurpation,” adding that using it in such a manner “would set a terrible precedent.”
Pence urged her and every member of Congress “to avoid actions that would further divide and inflame the passions of the moment,” and also to “work with us to lower the temperature and unite our country.”
Pelosi did not listen to Pence’s warning and chose to go ahead with a pointless impeachment which is only making Americans’ political problems even worse.
