The Next Supreme Court Nominee Is Being Kept Hidden for His Unbelievable Reason

There is no more divisive fight in politics than confirming a justice to the Supreme Court.

But the American people have no idea how badly hell is about to break loose in Washington.

That’s because the next Supreme Court nominee is being kept hidden for his unbelievable reason.

In 2016, Donald Trump united the Republican Party by producing a list of conservative justices Trump promised to pick his Supreme Court nominees from.

This move paid off brilliantly as conservatives skeptical about Trump’s commitment to their cause bought in after seeing that Trump was serious.

In 2020, some left-wing activists are pressing Democrat presumptive nominee Joe Biden to replicate Trump’s Supreme Court shortlist.

Biden’s always identified with the establishment and polls show Biden does not generate much enthusiasm among voters.

Some liberals think Biden can solve that problem by exciting Democrat voters by dangling the carrot of a Supreme Court packed with liberal judicial activists.

However, the top two Democrats in the Senate threw cold water on this idea.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin begged Biden not to release a short list of Supreme Court nominees.

“I sincerely hope he does not do that,” Durbin told reporters. “We ought to go back to the regular order of things. If and when vacancies occur he can look for the very best person at that moment.”

“But understand what the Republicans were doing, they were making clear [to] the Federalist Society he was going to pre-clear every nominee for the Supreme Court, we should not be in the same business,” Durbin continued.

Schumer echoed Durbin’s message.

“I have a lot of faith in Joe Biden. … I’ve talked to him a little bit about this and I think he understands the gravity of the issue,” Schumer stated.

Hot Air Senior Editor Ed Morrissey thinks he figured out why Schumer and Durbin did not want Biden making a short list of potential nominees public.

“If Durbin and Schumer are clinging to ‘regular order’ as an argument, you can be certain something else is in play. That ‘something else’ might well be an understanding of just how much the Supreme Court issue favors Republicans in presidential elections,” Morrissey wrote on social media.

In 2016, Justice Antonin Scalia unexpectedly passed away and his seat sat vacant through the election as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked a vote on Merrick Garland – Barack Obama’s nominee – and bet everything on Donald Trump winning the election and picking Scalia’s successor.

That gamble paid off when voters that listed picking Supreme Court justices as their number one priority broke 56 percent to 41 for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.

Schumer and Durbin think Biden making a list of left-wing Supreme Court nominees public will only enflame the right and boost Donald Trump’s turnout in November.
